The narrator of this book wore me out. I couldn't make myself just "hear the story" because her drama was so overdone.

a sad story

I loved the book. Haruko the empress of Japan is a wonderful human being, the emperor a kind man. I fall in love with both. The empress Haruko, said "they put the soul in a diet" when she was talking with Masako, the wife of his first son. I found my self with tears in my eyes, checking the internet to see how Haruko and emperor looks right now. This book brings the reader inside the life of the Japan Monarchic, a life I did not know much about it.
