Tell Your Friends:

Overview

With the same wicked humor, buoyant charm, and optimism that have made her Shopaholic novels beloved international bestsellers, Sophie Kinsella delivers a hilarious new novel and an unforgettable new character. Meet Emma Corrigan, a young woman with a huge heart, an irrepressible spirit, and a few little secrets:

Secrets from her mother:
I lost my virginity in the spare bedroom with Danny Nussbaum while Mum and Dad were downstairs watching Ben-Hur.
Sammy the goldfish in my parents? kitchen is not the same goldfish that Mum gave me to look after when she and Dad were in Egypt.

Secrets from her boyfriend:
I weigh one hundred and twenty-eight pounds. Not one eighteen, like Connor thinks.

I've always thought Connor looks a bit like Ken. As in Barbie and Ken.

From her colleagues:
When Artemis really annoys me, I feed her plant orange juice. (Which is pretty much every day.) It was me who jammed the copier that time. In fact, all the times.

Secrets she wouldn't share with anyone in the world:
My G-string is hurting me.
I have no idea what NATO stands for. Or even what it is.

Until she spills them all to a handsome stranger on a plane. At least, she thought he was a stranger.

But come Monday morning, Emma's office is abuzz about the arrival of Jack Harper, the company's elusive CEO. Suddenly Emma is face-to-face with the stranger from
the plane, a man who knows every single humiliating detail about her. Things could not possibly get worse? Until they do.

This is one of the poorest books I ever listened to. I would not recommend it to anyone. The majority of it is written in the thoughts of Emma. The synopsis of this book says that it is a funny book. I found it just the opposite. I would find it hard to rent books by this author again. I would be cautious to do so.

Lighthearted and easy. It's fun to see the embarrasing moments that gal gets into and look into her thoughts. A fun read. Jo

After selecting a couple of "duds" to listen to, I was excited that I finally had such a fun story to listen to on my way to work. In fact, it was so good that I took the CDs out of my car and brought them inside when I got home so I could listen to them some more. I ended up finishing the book in less than two days! I highly recommend this to anyone who enjoys an uplifting, romantic story that doesn't always go as planned.

What a fun, light "read"! I'm falling in love with author Sophie Kinsella ~ she's turning my commute into a really enjoyable part of my day! A little predictable but crazy, lovable characters who make me want to get together right away with my girl friends. I'm about to look up and add to my list ALL of Ms. Kinsella's stories!

Kinsella, Sophie

Sophie Kinsella, aka Madeleine Wickham, raced to the top of the bestseller lists in September 2000 when her novel The Secret Dreamworld of A Shopaholic was published by Black Swan. The book’s heroine, Becky Bloomwood – a fun and feisty financial journalist who loves shopping but is hopeless with money – captured the hearts of readers worldwide and she has since gone on to further adventures in Shopaholic Abroad, Shopaholic Ties the Knot and Shopaholic and Sister, and has sold over two million copies to date. Sophie’s two stand-alone novels, Can You Keep A Secret and The Undomestic Goddess were both number one bestsellers, and have sold in the region of three quarters of a million copies each.

Sophie wrote her first novel under her real name, Madeleine Wickham, at the tender age of 24, whilst she was working as a financial journalist. The Tennis Party was immediately hailed as a success by critics and the public alike, and became a top ten bestseller. She has since published no fewer than six more novels as Madeleine Wickham, A Desirable Residence, Swimming Pool Sunday, The Gatecrasher, The Wedding Girl, Cocktails for Three and Sleeping Arrangements.

She submitted her first “Sophie Kinsella” novel anonymously to Black Swan, who were already her publishers, and it was snapped up without her editors knowing that she was already one of their authors. It was with the appropriately titled Can You Keep A Secret? that Sophie revealed her true identity for the first time.

Sophie was born in London. She studied music at New College, Oxford, but after a year switched to politics, philosophy and economics and gained a first after only two years studying. She has worked as a teacher and as a financial journalist. Married to a former opera singer, she has accompanied her husband professionally on the piano in concert tours of the Middle East and Africa. She lives in London with her husband and 3 children.
