Overview

It's a first for Rex Stout - the private investigator is female, young, and charming! A smart and sophisticated mystery with great appeal to those who follow Stout's detective novels. "Dol" Bonner is a beautiful young New Yorker who runs a licensed detective agency. The year is 1937 and she and her friends are smart, savvy, and full of fast, no-nonsense talk. Most interesting, this is Dol's only full-length adventure coming from the pen of Rex Stout. Her creed is "I don't like men," although she seems to use them very well in solving crimes. The playful development of eccentric characters - ranging from a hyper-intelligent psychologist to a cosmos-interpreting spiritual medium - adds comic touches to this delightful and unique Stout mystery.

NOT Nero; not even close

If you like the Nero Wolfe books, I do not recommend this book. I fear it will be an awesome disappointment. If you like Nancy Drew, and wonder what she would have been like a few years older and running a detective agency with her chums, then you might like this. I understand why this is Stout's only "Dol" Bonner book.

If I could give this book a Zero (0) star I would ... it was terribly read, terribly written. I am a huge Rex Stout fan and I guess I did not read about this book before I "blindly" ordered it. I did not realize that it was not a Nero Wolfe book. Best Bet - stay away from this one !

Rex should have stayed with Nero. Like Nero he doesn't get women.
