Overview

MacArthur "genius" award winner Bill Strickland was an aimless kid growing up in a rough Pittsburgh neighborhood when a ceramics teacher at his high school took him under his wing and introduced him to the power of the arts and education. Determined to use the arts to help others, Strickland returned to his neighborhood after college and established Manchester Bidwell, two training centers dedicated to giving troubled kids and disadvantaged adults the encouragement and training to transform their lives.

While Bill Strickland works primarily with the disadvantaged, as he points out, we all make ourselves poor in one way or another, when we are told and believe that we are not smart enough to do this, or experienced enough to do that. In MAKING THE IMPOSSIBLE POSSIBLE, Strickland, who has four Grammys, a dozen honorary degrees, and appointments to the National Council on the Arts and The President’s Committee on the Arts and Humanities, shows us that anyone can accomplish the impossible. Through lessons from his own experiences and those of countless others who have overcome their circumstances and turned their lives around, Strickland shows that all of us can build on our passions and our strengths, dream bigger and set the bar higher, and achieve deeper and more meaningful success in our careers and our lives.
