This was a poor book. I am sorry that I rented it.
I wish I had read the reviews before selecting this book. I got through disc 4 and had to return it. Painful.
In a word TERRIBLE. SO slow and boring. Cornwall's first books were so good and she really needs to stop because the more recent ones are going down the tubes. Could not even finish this one, please don't waste your time and selection!
not good; didn't finish! Boring! reader: monotone!
This is the most boring book I've ever listened to - period. So boring that I had to stop on Disc 8 out of 12. I invested many hours of time to get through the first 8 discs but I couldn't keep going, even though I did want to know "who did it". The author throws in all kinds of prose and non-sensical information that isn't necessary for the story. Just drags on and on. The narrator has a voice that doesn't help. What starts out as maybe a little different way of narrations ends up being grating and adds to the boredom. Sorry, but I can't spend another minute on this book. Even reviewing it! ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ!
Not her best work and I'm a big fan. It seems to be lacking something from her other works. The characters have changed quite a bit in the last few books and I think the books have lost something because of it.
It takes a lot to overwhelm my OCD which requires me to finish whatever I start but this book prevailed. I made it to the 3rd CD then realized I was humming holiday songs, ejected the remaining CDs and rushed them to the Post Office. I used to love Cornwell's work but I could not begin to explain what was going on with this story. I doubt the author could either.
Extremely slow moving. Not up to the caliber of her other books.
By the end of CD #6 (with 6 more to go), when the story line hadn't progressed at all, I gave up. The thoughts of listening to another 6 CDs with a story that was moving slower than a glacier was more than I could bear. Also, I found the narrator's voice characterizations annoying. Not exactly as I've "heard" the characters in my head when I've read these books in hardcopy.
