What a waste of time- TOO LONG & SIMPLY PUT- AWFUL
I actually enjoyed this one. It's only my second audiobook; my first was rented from my college's library, and it was "Wild Animus". It was a strange one to start. Anyway, some people may think this book could be done on fewer CDs, but I think that would severely restrict Koontz's story. He is a descriptive writer, and sets the scene for you while allowing your imagination to run with it. I found every nuance satisfying and exciting.
The premise sounds good, but the plot doesn't really move along. In one scene it took ages to climb down a two story ladder because the author kept stopping the action (boring as it would be anyway) to observe, opine, and critisize a number of things unrelated to the current scene. The addition of surfer-speak, AGAIN, was completely unnecessary - Koontz has to translate each monosyllabic utterance back into English for the listener. As usual, the book was sprinkled with a liberal dose of God-contemplating, rhapsodizing over the wonderousness of dogs, and repetition of basic concepts we understood the first two times they were thrown at us. A frustratingly long, boring book with a lackluster conclusion.
Totally out of it! Not what I thought it might be, couldn't wait for it to end.
Another great Dean Koontz book. I like the Christopher Snow character and would like to see more of him.
Dean R. Koontz, the author of many #1 "New York Times" bestsellers, lives with his wife, Gerda, and their dog, Trixie, in southern California.
