Overview

Joshua Ferris' debut novel Then We Came to the End was both heralded by critics and a New York Times bestseller, and marked the arrival of a startlingly talented young writer. With THE UNNAMED, Ferris imagines the collision between one man's free will and the forces of nature that are bigger than any of us.

Tim Farnsworth walks. He walks out of meetings and out of bed. He walks in sweltering heat and numbing cold. He will walk without stopping until he falls asleep, wherever he is. This curious affliction has baffled medical experts around the globe--and come perilously close to ruining what should be a happy life. Tim has a loving family, a successful law career and a beautiful suburban home, all of which he maintains spectacularly well until his feet start moving again.

What drives a man to stay in a marriage, in a job? What forces him away? Is love or conscience enough to overcome the darker, stronger urges of the natural world? THE UNNAMED is a deeply felt, luminous novel about modern life, ancient yearnings, and the power of human understanding.

I could NOT get into this book, it was all over the place and very confusing. I got to the 3rd CD and could't take it anymore. Hated it!

I can count on my hand the number of times I've utterly disliked a book....this stands out as number one. Although the plot seemed to have substance, it rambled on and on and.....on with no resolution. I'm sorry I heard it til the end.

I just finally gave up on this one......on the last disc. Just too depressing and pointless.

I rarely write reviews but this was the worst audio book I've ever listened to - I made it to the end of Disc 5 out of 7 and I could never figure out what was happening! The characters moved in and out and then it became complete nonsense.

The Unnamed is so well written and so utterly absorbing that I couldn't leave it in the car. This audiobook is one of the best I've ever encountered.

Wow. An excellent book. The author reads it, and he does a great job. This book isn't one of those happy ending stories, it is real life. I never felt I could understand mental illness, yet this book somehow gets you to feel how it can be, without actually knowing what it is like. It can be a bit depressing, you feel for the main character and the author gets you to root for him, yet you kind of understand that he won't ever break out.
