I'm a life-long zombie fan, but I am having all kinds of trouble getting into this book. I think it's a little boring; or maybe a lot boring. I can't really remember because I kept falling to sleep.
Great book. Starts off strong and gets a little repetitive towards the end, but a must read for zombie fans. the last two dic's are only about actual zombie incidents. which i skipped through because that i don't really care about...only surviving!
I'd strongly recommend skipping this book and just listen to World War Z. It really is about as riveting as having someone reading a wilderness guide to you. Combine that will some of the glaring inaccuracies and it was painful for me to get through this. What bugged me the most is the author commenting again and again about not trusting zombie knowledge and protection methods gained from movies yet it is obvious a lot of his weapon "knowledge" is what he learned from movies. It was obvious he had no clue that silencers usually only reduce weapon noise about 30 db (Rock Concert down to Train level). That a silencer doesn't really help at all unless you are using subsonic ammo so you don't get the loud crack from the bullet breaking the sound barrier. Also add to the fact that a silencer needs to be serviced/replaced after so many shots depending on the suppression method. The book is more annoying than entertaining.
Oh... this is fun. It gives both realistic and common sense approaches on a how to deal with a shambling horde of the un-dead. Very fun. This book sucks you in. (oh... sorry... that is vampires).
Max Brooks's previous book, "The Zombie Survival Guide," formed the core of the world's civilian survival manuals during the Zombie War. Mr. Brooks subsequently spent years traveling to every part of the globe in order to conduct the face-to-face interviews that have been incorporated into this present publication.
